ICPC clearance & toenail clippings
We received a call from our adoption agency around 4 pm Friday June 18th.
We thought we’d be headed home!
No luck.
Our paperwork was missing a file when sent to Arizona. Everyone in UT had gone home for the day, so we had to wait until Monday to finish off all that was needed. It was a bummer because it meant we’d just miss my brother Taylor’s missionary farewell on Sunday.
Make no mistake, things still moved very speedily for us, so no complaints.
In preparation for the call we knew we’d be getting to send us home Monday, we made it to the border on Sunday. We got as close to the Arizona border as we could while not leaving the state of Utah.
Aren’t we funny?
We barely had cell phone service, so I was constantly standing still to make sure I had a couple of service bars wherever we were.
The hotel wasn’t too bad except that I found yucky white toenail clippings all over the floor in our first bedroom. Lyla isn’t walking yet so you know she’d find them, and Masie puts anything in her mouth so you know she’d find them… I called the front desk and they apologized and quickly sent someone to vacuum. Blah!
We brought along one port-a-cot for Lyla, but Masie still needs a crib, so we had to use the hotel’s crib which was probably from the 1970s. Wish I would have gotten a photo.
We made the most of Monday when all we wanted to do was hit the road. We found a fun little memorial where the kids could play in the rocks and man-made little waterfalls. We spent a couple of hours there eating snacks and enjoying each others company.
Masie first thing fell head first into on of the fountains. Just wet. No harm done.
Masie second thing decided the red dirt was fun to eat. Dirty, but again no harm done.
Lars is hiding in the Baby Bjorn.
We were eating lunch at Wendy’s when the call finally came at 1 pm. Of course I didn’t have cell service, so it was a few minutes later that we got the news that we could GO HOME!!
We hit the road Jack!
We were puttering along, stopping every 2 hours for Lars to eat, and then had to go 3 hours out of our way to go around the forest fire north of Flagstaff. I wish I could have appreciated the beautiful of driving through the Grand Canyon area, but man, we just wanted to get home.
Home sweet home.
